We woke up to a wonderful surprise this morning. Upon opening the curtains we discovered that there was snow on top of the mountains.
SNOW!
IN FEBRUARY!!
Remember the terrible weather that cancelled our scenic flight? Turns out it was caused by Ex tropical cyclone Gita that had been hanging around for a few days and had passed through up north overnight. The result for Queenstown was snow (not on the ground in town but up in the mountains). It was magical. In my excitement, I flung the balcony door open and discovered it was cold. very cold. We didn’t mind the cold if the trade-off was this magnificent view we were now being treated to!
On today’s agenda was a wine and food tour. We put our warm jackets on and headed into town to grab some breakfast at Vudu Cafe & Larder. All three of us were not overly impressed with the food, drinks and service we got here, so I wouldn’t recommend it.
Our tour guide picked us up mid-morning. It was a small group tour and there were only two other couples on the trip with us, some young honeymooners from the USA and a lovely couple from the UK. None of us were really “wine” people but we all thoroughly enjoyed the stops, especially the wine cave, which was very cool. The lunch was absolutely to die for.
Our tour guide was super friendly and knowledgeable and provided lots of great info and recommendations that you just wouldn’t get if you toured the wineries on your own. Not to mention he was the designated driver so we were all able to indulge. Almost everyone fell asleep on the drive back into Queenstown (not that this stopped the guide from telling his stories LOL) and as we were saying our farewells it was clear that everyone agreed it was a very enjoyable day.
Since we were already on a roll and wanted to keep drinking we went to Perky’s floating bar. They serve great drinks and if you want to bring takeaway food onboard you can, or you can order a devil burger (Fergburger competition and very, very good) and get it delivered.
