Big things road trip day two - Full day in Seventeen Seventy

Writer: EmmaEmma

Today we had a full day to spend enjoying all the town of 1770 had to offer!

We did a quick stop at Chinaman's beach, which is about 10 minutes out of town and was totally deserted the day we visited. During the summer months, there are stingers here so swimming during these months is not possible but the beach is gorgeous.

We couldn't spend too long at the beach as we were booked on the "Lunch & LARC" tour and needed to get into town to check-in for this. The LARC is an old military vehicle that can drive on land and float in water like a boat! The tour we were taking was two hours of exploring the beach along the national park with lunch included. We had a great guide who kept us entertained, the LARC was surprisingly comfortable too!! We thought this was a really good value tour and a great way to see some of the sights. Definitely a must-do while you are here.

After our tour finished we made our way to the Paperbark Forest Walk, which is only a few minutes out of town. This is a really simple 500 metre-ish bushwalk through a Paperbark tree forest. There is a narrow boardwalk most of the way, but in two spots there are logs you will need to navigate your way across. There are signs advising no prams or wheelchairs because of this. We really enjoyed this walk, it is flat and not strenuous at all and suitable for almost everyone.

On our way back into town, we spotted a sign for the 1770 distillery and we decided to drop in. We met the owner who explained to us he makes fruit liqueurs and gave us a tasting of the different types on offer. All of them were delicious but my favourite was the Strawberry and we left with a couple of bottles. There was also a nursery here that looked nice.

1770 got its name from the year Captain Cook and his cronies arrived in Australia and "discovered" it. There is a weird monument thing at the spot they first came ashore that we did a quick stop at. It seemed kinda racist, so we moved on.

On the way back to our accommodation we spotted a random big Nemo out the front of someone's house, so I jumped out for a quick selfie with it before heading back to the accommodation for another refreshing swim.

After upgrading the car repairs with some extra strong tape and zip ties we made ourselves look respectable and headed out for a nice dinner at the Drift & Wood restaurant, which was just delicious.

We headed back for another great night at the Zen Den.
