Big things road trip day three - Agnes Waters to Yeppoon

After enjoying the included breakfast at the Zen Den and saying goodbye to our new doggo friends, we hit the road. Today's destination was Yeppoon, which is just near Rockhampton.

We had quite a few "Big Things" on our list for today and made good time getting to the first couple in Miriam Vale - the Big Crab and the Big Magpie & Nest. After getting some petrol we continued our journey to the Big Giraffe in Bororen. Noel got a coffee here, mostly so he could have an excuse to say "I like your giraffe" to the girl who worked here.

Just up the road, we came across the Big Hands in Benaraby. These looked pretty new and were a bit artsy and tricky to get a good photo of. We tried.

Our next stop was the Big Soccer Ball at the Gladstone Soccer club. Noel spent part of his childhood in Gladstone so we spent some time stalking his old house and school like total weirdos. We also headed up to a great lookout where we could see all of Gladstone. It is a pretty industrial looking place, but there were some pretty spots along the water.

We kept heading north and arrived in Gracemere to visit its "Big G" just before 12 pm. Gracemere is located on the Tropic of Capricorn and Noel was very excited about the shadows here for some science-y reason he tried to explain to me. Clearly, I listened and can articulate it really well...

Rockhampton was next on our list. Rockhampton is known for its beef cattle and has SIX "Big Bulls" located throughout the city to celebrate this. We were pretty hungry and keen to try some of this famous beef, so we went to the Stonegrill Restaurant for lunch where the steaks are served on a piece of volcanic rock that is heated to 400 degrees (celcuis). It was a cool concept but the old guy who worked there was super annoying and wanted to give us a 20-minute explanation about the parts of the cow the steak comes from before we could order, even though we knew what we wanted! It was really tasty, but it wasn't a quick stop so we had some time to make up this afternoon and skipped seeing a couple of the big cows.

Our next stop was the Big Camel in Nankin and this one probably wins the prize for the weirdest big thing we saw. There were a number of real camels around in a couple of paddocks and the Big Camel was located at the end of a fairly long driveway. We got out of the car and no one was around at all, except for two sweet dogs who were hiding in the shade. There was a heap of no tresspassing signs, even though there were signs on the main street promoting this as a place to visit??? We took some snaps and patted the good boys and got out of there.

We took the scenic route to Yeppoon via the Singing ship at Emu Park, which isn't officially a big thing but it pretty cool anyway.

When we arrived in Yeppoon we checked into our accommodation and then went back into town for a dip in the Yeppoon Lagoon and a walk on the beach. The lagoon looks awesome and it a great spot to have a swim and watch the sunset from.

We ended up getting cocktails and dinner at the Rocks restaurant which located on the top floor of the building at the lagoon. Everything was delicious!

We headed to a nearby lookout to catch the last of the sunset and then headed back to our accommodation for the night. We were staying at a Backpackers, in a private room named the "man & wife" room which we thought was pretty funny!
