Big things day trip from Brisbane to Sunshine Coast

Writer: EmmaEmma

Before we set out on our two week "Big Things" road trip around Queensland (you can read about that here) we did a couple of day trips to check that the list of big things we were working from was reliable and to make sure we were getting our timing right and testing out the map tool we wanted to use for the trip.

The second test trip we did had us heading north to the Sunshine Coast. On the first day of our trip, we want to get fairly far north, so we decided to check out the Big Things closer to home in order to get a few hours north on the first day without stopping.

Our first stop was at the Big Lawnmower at Beerwah, it seemed pretty new. We then carried onto Australia Zoo and its Big Crocodile. WE were feeling a bit peckish at this point and decided to grab breakfast at The Big Barrel in Maleny, which was our next stop. The also had a Big Chess Board, so we got a bonus big thing we weren't expecting here.

A few minutes from the big barrel was the Maleny cheese factory, that has both the Big Cheese and the Big Milk Can. We love Maleny cheese and took the opportunity to stock up on their cheese while we were here.

Our next stop was at Queenslands Iconic Big thing - The Big Pineapple at Woombye. There was a zoo here that looks great and we will definitely be coming back one day to check it out when we have more time. The Big Macadamia is also on the same property as the Big Pineapple, so we checked this out too.

There was a storm the previous day that had caused a lot of damage and knocked out the power at the Giner Factory in Yandina, so it was unexpectedly closed. We couldn't get a photo with the big gingerbread man because of this.

We travelled north to Noosaville and got a picture of the Big Pelican which was pretty cool, but parking was a nightmare!

We then saw some of the more random/less official big things on the Sunshine Coast including the Big Kookaburra in a tree at a child care centre, The Big Remote at a garage door business, the Big Tap at a plumbing business and the Big Seashell, which literally someone's front door - so weird!

Our final stop of the day was at the Strawberry Fields farm in Palmview to see their Big Strawberry. We grabbed some delicious strawberry ice cream and home made strawberry jam here.
